PROGRAM OVERVIEW
In this ten-day non-credit program in Communication Studies and American Culture, CUFE students will participate in academic workshops in Intercultural Communication, Marketing/PR, Advertising, Communication Research Methods, and the Media/Culture Industry with faculty from the College of Communication and Information at the Florida State University.
In addition to academic workshops, students will visit advertising/marketing/PR organizations and tour media production facilities. They will experience American culture through evening activities and out-of-town weekend field trips. As they participate in their full schedule of activities on- and off-campus, students will gain English practice and have support from Peer Mentors who will serve as cultural liaisons and guides. The FSU College of Communication and Information will coordinate program logistics and academic content.
PROGRAM DATES & DEADLINES
Program Dates: July 8 through July 18, 2017
March 1, 2017 - Students must turn in application, test score, and $500 deposit to CUFE contact
April 1, 2017 - Students get letters of invitation from FSU
June 1, 2017 - Students must turn in remainder of program fees to CUFE contact
Deposit of $500 is non-refundable.
PROGRAM FEE INCLUDES
- A minimum of 15 hours of Communication Studies workshops (lectures by faculty from the FSU College of Communication and Information (FSU College of Communication and Information)
- Visits to PR/marketing organizations and tours of media production facilities
- FSU Binder, Lanyard, FSU ID card, flash drive with notes from workshops
- Program orientation, and campus and city tours
- Interaction and English practice with American students who serve as peer mentors and cultural liaisons to provide support, guide evening activities, and accompany students to meals and field trips
- Introduction to American culture and the natural environment through two full-day out-of-town field trips: on Saturday, to Pier Park beach and mall in Panama City, Florida (Pier Park at Panama City Beach) and on Sunday, to St. Mark's Lighthouse and Wildlife Refuge (St. Marks ) and Wakulla Springs State Park for riverboat tour to view local wildlife, including alligators, exotic birds, manatees (Wakulla Springs)
- On-campus housing in apartment style residence halls with single rooms, shared bath and living room (includes welcome basket, bed linens, and towels) (Ragans Hall)
- Three meals daily in campus dining halls (Seminole Dining), a welcome luncheon, meal at Wakulla Springs (Wakulla Springs Lodge), and catered traditional Thanksgiving farewell dinner
- Health insurance including emergency medical evacuation coverage (ISO insurance)
- Local transportation for in-town field trips and shopping
- Ongoing support and coordination by fulltime FSU staff
- Pickup from and return to Orlando
STUDENTS RESPONSIBLE FOR:
- Roundtrip airfare to Orlando
- Application fee for US Visitor Visa
- Spending money for personal items/souvenirs
- American cell phone subscription
- Soap/shampoo for residence
- Lunch/dinner on Panama City Saturday fieldtrip
- Additional travel and tourism following the program

Saturday July 8, 2017 - Students fly into Orlando, take bus from Orlando to FSU
Tuesday July 18, 2017 - Students take bus from FSU to Orlando
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT
61 on TOEFL or 6 on IETLS or at CUFE discretion
