School of Communication Undergraduate Application Instructions – Spring 2019

2019 School of Communication Undergraduate Application

In preparation to use the online application form students should complete the following.

Advertising

Students applying to the Advertising major should compile and submit:

a) A personal statement describing your prior experiences, career objectives and overall interests that are related to your application (maximum length: 500 words).

b) Portfolio materials, that may include a resume, writing / copywriting samples, creative works, graphic art examples, and illustrations that are related to your application (a maximum of three examples will be reviewed).

c) Copies of your college / university transcript(s) – – – official or unofficial copies are acceptable.

Digital Media Production

Students applying to the Digital Media Production major are encouraged to compile and submit:

a) A personal statement: Please describe a story or topic you would like to make a video about. This could be a documentary or a sports feature for Seminole Productions. Tell us why you think this topic is interesting and how you would present your story? What would we see? What would we hear? (maximum length: 500 words).

b) ONE Uniform Resource Locator (URL) link that contains audio / video work samples that are related to your application. When submitting audio / video work, please indicate your role and contributions to each sample in your reel. Sample video reels should not exceed 5 minutes. NOTE: You may submit a text file to accompany your visual work, explaining your role in the work, any awards or recognitions or other details about the production.

c) Copies of your college / university transcript(s) – – – official or unofficial copies are acceptable.

Media Communication Studies

Students applying to the Media Communication Studies should compile and submit:

a) Copies of your college / university transcript(s) – – – official or unofficial copies are acceptable.

Public Relations

Students applying to the Public Relations major should compile and submit:

a) A personal statement describing your prior experiences, career objectives and overall interests that are related to your application (maximum length: 500 words).

b) Portfolio materials, that may include a resume, writing examples and creative works that are related to your application (a maximum of three examples will be reviewed).

c) Copies of your college / university transcript(s) – – – official or unofficial copies are acceptable.

Application to the School of Communication requires three (3) steps:

  1. Students applying to the School of Communication:
    a) Must currently be admitted to FSU, or
    b) Transfer students must have applied to FSU: http://admissions.fsu.edu/
    Note: Acceptance to FSU does not guarantee admission to the School of Communication.
  2. Beginning December 20, 2018, students may complete the online application found at:
    https://comm-fsu.us.fluidreview.com/
    When completing the following online application form we recommend that you use one of the web browsers listed here: Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox.
  3. Finally, students should submit the completed online application on or before the deadline of February 1, 2019, 5:00 p.m. EST.
    NOTE: Before submitting the completed online application, please print and retain a copy for your records.
