Sample Programs in Media Production

The Media Production undergraduate major consists of 36 credit hours taken over two years. The following sample program is offered as an example of a student’s course load for the duration of the program. Students may choose to focus their program in one of our two areas of emphasis: Documentary and Public Affairs or Sports Media. A specific plan based on student interest will be developed with an advisor after admission to the program.

Documentary and Public Affairs Emphasis


Year One

Fall Semester

  • Requirement: Single-Camera Video Production (RTV 3221)
  • Requirement: Video Post Production (RTV 3263)
  • Requirement: Writing for the Electronic Media (RTV 3101)
  • Core Class: Introduction to the Mass Media (MMC 2000)

Spring Semester

  • Requirement: Multiple-Camera Studio Production (RTV 3227)
  • Production Credit: Computer Graphics and Animation (RTV 3264)
  • Core Class: Mass Media Law (ADV 3352)
  • Activities Credit: Television Interviewing and Hosting (RTV 3234)

Summer Semester Between Year One and Year Two

Summer internship is highly encouraged – Internship (COM 4945r).

Year Two

  • Core Class: Elements of Broadcasting (RTV 3003)
  • Minor Requirement: One Course to fulfill your minor requirement
  • Elective Course: Student’s Choice

Spring Semester

  • Core Class: Elements of Film (FIL 2000)
  • Activities Credit: Senior Thesis in Production (RTV 4970) 3 credits
  • Minor Requirement: One Course to fulfill your minor requirement
  • Elective Course: Student’s Choice
  • Activities Credit: Video Workshop – WFSU (RTV 3225r)

After second year/before graduation

Students are also eligible to participate in the summer internship during the summer semester following their second year. Internship is highly encouraged – Internship (COM 4945r).
